Michael Jackson - This Is It (2009)

This Is It features the music that inspired Sony Pictures’ forthcoming film MICHAEL JACKSON’S THIS IS IT.

Disc one will feature the original album masters of some of Michael’s biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of the never-released “This Is It.” This song is featured in the film’s closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael’s brothers, the Jacksons.

Disc two offers previously unreleased versions of some of the artist’s classic tracks. This disc also features a touching spoken word poem from Michael Jackson entitled “Planet Earth” that has never been heard before.

The two-disc This Is It is a stand-alone companion to the motion picture and includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal.

Billboard names Beyonce ‘Woman of the Year’

NEW YORK – The year's not even over, but Billboard already knows who its woman of the year is — Beyonce (Bee-AHN'-say).

The superstar will be honored by the industry publication at its annual Women in Music event.

Past "Woman of the Year" honorees were Ciara (SEE-ehr-ah) and Reba McEntire.


Beyonce will be on hand to accept her award at the Oct. 2 event in New York City. It's been yet another big year for the entertainer. She had the smash hit "Single Ladies," sang at President Obama's inauguration, had a No. 1 movie with "Obsessed" and embarked on an arena tour.

Beyonce is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group (Destiny’s Child) and as a solo artist.

“Beyoncé is multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor,” said Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director. “She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes.”

Past Billboard “Woman of the Year” honorees include Ciara and Reba McEntire.

Norah Jones will release her 4th album

Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Norah Jones will release her fourth studio album on Parlophone / Blue Note Records this November. Jones wrote nearly all of the songs in the past two years since completing tours in support of her 2007 global chart-topping, U.S. double-platinum album Not Too Late.

Beloved by fans for her sultry vocals and jazz-informed, piano-driven pop songwriting, Jones has taken a new direction on the as-yet-untitled album, seeing it as a chance to experiment with different sounds and an opportunity to work with a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse among others. Jones also enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partner Jesse Harris.

'I knew I wanted to try some different things on this album,' Jones says. 'I’d been playing with the same musicians for a long time. We’re all still friendly and I hope we play together again, but it felt like a good time to work with new people and experiment with different sounds. As far as a producer, I wanted someone who could take me out of my comfort zone and find the right musicians to capture what I wanted to do with this collection of songs. I got in touch with Jacquire initially because he engineered one of my favourite records of all time, Tom Waits’ Mule Variations. He was really eager to do it and we got along really well, which was important.'

King helped Jones put together a new group of musicians to perform on the album, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). Jones and King tailored the songs to the musicians’ strengths. 'I think the record sounds different due to the variety of musicians we used,' Jones says, 'I knew I wanted to play with grooves more than I have on previous albums. Some of these new songs lent themselves to having driving rhythms underneath.'

Another noticeable change on Jones’ upcoming album is that she plays mostly guitar. 'I actually write more on guitar than I do on piano,' she says. 'It just felt more natural for me to play it on these songs.'

Since coming on the scene in 2002, Jones’ has sold a collective 36 million albums worldwide. Her three studio albums, 2002’s eight-time Grammy Award-winning Come Away With Me, 2004’s Feels Like Home, and 2007’s Not Too Late have each topped the Billboard top 200 album charts in the U.S. and gone to No. 1 around the world. All three have been certified multi-platinum, while Come Away With Me has been certified diamond. Since 2007, Jones has collaborated with a number of artists, including Herbie Hancock, Talib Kweli, Willie Nelson, Q-Tip, Irma Thomas, and Andy Samberg’s comedy troupe The Lonely Island. She has also contributed to various soundtracks, including Ken Burns’ The War, Ethan Hawke’s The Hottest State, and Wong Kar-wai’s My Blueberry Nights, as well as the Fats Domino tribute album Goin’ Home. In 2007, Jones starred opposite Jude Law in My Blueberry Nights and made a cameo in this year’s season finale of 30 Rock. Also this year, Jones was featured as a flagship artist on Apple’s GarageBand, presenting a tutorial on how to perform her song 'Thinking About You.'

Daughtry debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Album Chart

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Rock band Daughtry debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart Wednesday, ending a three-week stretch in which Michael Jackson claimed the top-selling album.

Daughtry's "Leave This Town" sold 269,000 units during the week ended July 19, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

It marks the Chris Daughtry-fronted band's second No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Its self-titled freshman set debuted at No. 2 with 304,000 units in 2006. It went to No. 1 in its ninth week, an incredible feat considering that most No. 1 albums get to No. 1 by debuting there.

Michael Jackson mania isn't over on the charts. His albums, which are not eligible for the Billboard 200 since they were released more than 18 months ago, loomed large on the Top Comprehensive Albums chart, which combines current and catalog releases. His 2003 "Number Ones" hits collection shifted 192,000 copies, good for No. 2 behind Daughtry.

All told, Jackson claimed six out of the top 10 on Top Comprehensive Albums, including "The Essential Michael Jackson" (125,000), "Thriller" (114,000), "Off the Wall" (68,000), "Bad" (61,000) and "Dangerous" (55,000).

Last week's Billboard 200 champ, Maxwell's "BLACKsummers'night," slipped to No. 2 with 103,000. The "Hannah Montana 3" soundtrack was also down one, to No. 3, with 73,000, as was the "Now 31" compilation at No. 4 with 69,000. The Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." held at No. 5 with 54,000.

White Stripes frontman Jack White's latest side project, the Dead Weather, saw its first album "Horehound" enter at No. 6 with 51,000. White is joined by Alison Mosshart (of the Kills), Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (of the Greenhornes and White's other project the Raconteurs). All told, this is the sixth top 10 album for White, counting his three top 10s with the White Stripes, two with the Raconteurs and the new Dead Weather set.

R&B singer Joe claimed his fourth top 10 album and second in less than a year as "Signature" arrived at No. 7 with 49,000 copies. Last October, "Joe Thomas, New Man" entered and peaked at No. 8 with 54,000.

Rapper Twista debuted at No. 8 with "Category F5," which sold 45,000 copies. Taylor Swift's "Fearless" rose one to No. 9 with 37,000, and Kings of Leon's "Only By the Night" jumped four to No. 10 with 33,000.

Overall album sales totaled 6.78 million units, down 6.8 percent compared to the sum last week and down 9.3% compared to the same sales week of 2008. Year-to-date album sales stand at 195.4 million, down 13.9 percent compared to the same total at this point last year.

The first disc, named "HIStory Begins" consists of a selection of Jackson's greatest hits from the singer's past fifteen years, while the second, named "HIStory Continues" features new songs, with the exception of "Come Together", which was recorded in 1987.

Free Michael Jackson Funeral Tickets

Michael Jackson fans will get a chance to say goodbye to the King of Pop at a public memorial service to be held at L.A.'s Staples Center on Tuesday.

Michael Jackson Funeral Tickets will be available to the general public and will be free of charge, Via Random Drawing

Fans from around the world are expected to fly to Los Angeles to say farewell to Jackson, who died at 50 after suffering cardiac arrest on June 25.

Jackson's final rehearsal took place at Staples, where he was prepping for his London tour, sponsored by AEG Live (which owns Staples Center).

Preliminary details of the funeral service are as follows:

Michael Jackson - Thriller 25 th Anniversary

Thriller 25 is a 25th Anniversary special edition reissue of the Michael Jackson album Thriller, the world's best selling album. The prospect of a "second chapter" to Thriller was first publicly discussed on Access Hollywood in late 2006. Jackson said he would discuss the idea with collaborator will.i.am. It was released in Australia on February 8, 2008, then internationally on February 11, 2008 and the following day in the United States.[3]

Thriller 25 was released by Sony BMG's re-issue division, Legacy Recordings. In the United Kingdom, the BBFC gave it a '15' Certificate because it included "Thriller". HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (usually shortened to HIStory) is a double album by Michael Jackson, released on June 20, 1995, and is Jackson's ninth album. Off the Wall is the fifth studio album by the American pop musician Michael Jackson, released August 10, 1979 on Epic Records, after Jackson's critically well received film performance in The Wiz. While working on that project, Jackson and Quincy Jones had become friends, and Jones agreed to work with Jackson on his next studio album. Michael Jackson Autopsy Result

The graphic above outlines what the newspaper claims it learned from the autopsy results, which did not officially determine Jackson's cause of death.
The autopsy on Michael Jackson's body revealed him to be in terrible shape, with only pills in his stomach when he died, according to a report out of the UK.

These findings seem to substantiate allegations made by former Jackson nanny Grace Rwaramba, however, neither story has been independently confirmed.

The Sun, which claims to have obtained the autopsy results, claims:

* Michael Jackson's hips, thighs and shoulders were riddled with needle wounds.
* There is unexplained bruising on Jackson's knees and on the front of his shins.
* That he weighed just 112 pounds, a shockingly low number for a 5'10" man.
* His body was covered by a plethora of surgery scars were thought to be the result of at least 13 plastic surgery operations.
* The star was bald at the time of his death and suffered several broken ribs, probably from the failed attempts to revive him.
* There were four "injection sites" near his heart, where rescue workers reportedly shot adrenaline into his heart to restart it.

Whether or not these claims are substantiated remains to be seen, so take it all with a grain of salt. In related news, the lawyer for Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, claims now that when Murray found Jackson, he had a faint pulse.

Murray's lawyer, Edward Chernoff, says Murray went into Michael Jackson's bedroom and saw he wasn't breathing, then immediately began administering CPR.

Chernoff told the AP, regarding his client, that "He just happened to find him in his bed, and he wasn't breathing. Mr. Jackson was still warm and had a pulse."

In response to a major story circulating, Chernoff says Murray did not prescribe or give Jackson Demerol or OxyContin at any point in his treatment of the star.

Rumors have surfaced that Jackson OD'd on Demerol. Chernoff says any drugs Murray prescribed were given in response to a specific complaint from Jackson.

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen Wanna Record Together !!

Los Angeles – For the next three months or so, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen will be spending a lot of time with each other crisscrossing the country on the American Idol tour.

It's no wonder that the two say we shouldn't be surprised if, in the end, they decide to record a song together.

"It could happen," Lambert told me yesterday during my exclusive sitdown with him and Allen. "Maybe we'll write a song on the road."

Allen smiled, "We have to figure it out, but yeah, we should do it."

No surprise, but the American Idol winner and runner-up have become as tight as any two best friends could be. So, just how close are they?

They both laugh when I ask Allen if Lambert is his "closest gay."

"As much time as we spend together, I would probably say so," Allen said.

And it works both ways. "He's definitely becoming my closest straight," Lambert said. "That's something I am trying to get across—that it doesn't frickin' matter. Just like when people were dealing with race relations. The moment we started getting over it as a society was the moment we stopped paying attention to the differences and paid attention to the similarities.

He continued, "People get so scared and uncomfortable with the ways in which they are different. I think it's a testament to Kris that he's completely comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with his sexuality. He's a straight man, he's married, and it's not threatening for him to be friends with a gay guy."

Or as the more reserved Allen put it, "That's what's wrong with the world. Why can't everyone just get along?"

As talkative as Lambert is, he remains pretty much tight-lipped on matters of the heart.

"I do not have a boyfriend," he said when I ask about the much-speculated-about relationship he has with interior designer and artist Drake LaBry. "I know everybody wants to know but that is the one area that I kind of want to keep out of the press: my personal love life, especially out of respect to the other person."

But then, a few minutes later, Lambert looked at me and said, "OK, let me set the record straight with you on the boyfriend thing—Yes, Drake and I are dating. You can say that."

Now back to show business. Is Lambert itching to get back to acting like he did in his pre-Idol theater days?

Not exactly.

"I think I'm a little bit over it because I spent so much time as a kid in theater," he said. "I had my love affair with musical theater and now I'm like, 'Give me something edgier, give me something a littler grittier, a little bit sexier and not so safe.' "

Mr. Allen, on the other hand, wants absolutely nothing to do with acting. "I don't think so, man," he said. "I don't think anyone would ask me to. I did those Ford commercials and it was hell."

King of Pop, Michael Jackson dead of a HeartAttack!

Singer Michael Jackson, a child Motown sensation who grew into a moonwalking megastar, died in Los Angeles today, a county coroner said.

Jackson, 50, suffered an apparent heart attack at his Bel-Air home and was rushed to UCLA Medical Center around 3:30 p.m. Eastern time. His death was confirmed by Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. Hospital officials were expected to make an announcement shortly.

In a career spanning four decades, the entertainer sold millions of records, earning worldwide adoration in the 1980s. Later he came to be regarded as one of show business's legendary oddities, hopping from one public relations crisis to another.

Quincy Jones, the composer who often collaborated on projects with Jackson, said he was devastated. "I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him," Jones said.

As news spread, a large crowd gathered outside the hospital awaiting word on the performer who had sold 750 million albums, was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received 14 Grammy Awards, including one for lifetime achievement. People snapped photos and called friends.

One fan, Seth Casteel, 28, brought a boombox to play Jackson's music outside the hospital. "People love Michael Jackson," Casteel said. "He touched so many people over the years."

In the Washington area, Dana Bullitt, 35, stood in the pop-rock aisle of the Fye music store in Wheaton tonight, looking for Jackson's albums. Fans had already made a run on the nearby Best Buy and bought up all of his CDs, she said. Upon hearing that Jackson died, "I cried, and I cried and I cried," said Bullitt, of Silver Spring.

Jackson was planning to appear in a sold-out series of concerts in London next month that would have run until March. Promoters of the concerts had recently said that the singer had passed a physical examination to assauge any doubts he was ready for a comeback.

His death was the top news story in Britain, leading all the online news sites and television broadcasts. Self-proclaimed psychic Uri Geller, a close friend of Jackson's, told Sky News in London that the "anticipation of this mammoth challenge that was coming up upon him doing these 50 concerts, wanting to be close to perfection, when he was going to be on stage put him under huge, huge pressure -- that could have been it."

Alan Light, former editor of Vibe and Spin magazines, said, "It's almost impossible to overstate the impact he had on popular music and popular culture." . . . He really defined what the music video could be. He was the ultimate crossover figure, bringing black music and rock-and-roll together."

For all his many successes as a child and young man, Jackson's later life devolved into a series of tabloid headlines, bizarre plastic surgeries, and more courtroom appearances than hit songs. After he was acquited of child molestation charges in 2005, Jackson has led an increasingly reclusive life. He traveled the world with his three children, and the family's whereabouts were rarely known, as they jumped from hotels to rental homes around the world. His Neverland ranch north of Santa Barbara, Calif., is no longer the scene of private amusement fairs for needy children. He narrowly avoided having many of his belongings from the ranch sold at auction this year.
