Roma beat Milan @ San Siro

Il Grande Capitano, Paolo Maldini, Says Farewell to the San Siro

MILAN (May 24) - After 24 seasons as one of Italy's finest defenders and AC Milan's emblem, Paolo Maldini plays his last match at the San Siro tonite. He hang up his boots and ends his carrier with the defeat against Roma.

It finished AC Milan vs AS Roma 2-3 at San Siro. In the first half Riise had opened the score with a free kick in the 36th minute. In the second half Massimo Ambrosini scored a brace (75', 81'); the Giallorossi scored through Menez in the 80th minute and Totti in the 84th minute. Francesco Totti's freekick gave AS Roma a thrilling 3-2 win at AC Milan on Sunday to seal a Europa League spot and ruin Paolo Maldini's last home appearance before retirement.

Milan, who dropped to third after Ciro Ferrara's Juventus won 3-0 at Siena, will visit fourth-placed Fiorentina in the last game of the season next Sunday which could decide who takes the final automatic Champions League spot.

Pope Benedict XVI Launches Pope2You, Facebook and iPhone Apps

VATICAN CITY (May 23, 2009) — Web surfers can now send virtual postcards of Pope Benedict XVI to their Facebook friends or follow the pontiff's travel on their iPhones.

Under a papacy that has suffered communication woes, the Vatican is taking new, technologically savvy steps to bring its message to social networking sites and smartphones.

In its first day of operation Thursday, the Pope2You portal gathered some 45,000 contacts and 500,000 page views, while a Facebook application that sends postcards with photos of Benedict and excerpts from his messages was used around 10,000 times, the head of the project said.

Also available on the portal is an application for iPhone and iPod Touch that gives surfers video and audio news on the pope's trips and speeches, as well as on Catholic events worldwide.

The new Web site is the latest update in the Vatican's efforts to broaden the pope's audience and reach out to young people. In January, Benedict got his own YouTube channel, which is now linked to the portal.

Earlier this year, the Internet figured in one of Benedict's most criticized moves — lifting the excommunication of a renegade bishop who had denied the Holocaust.

Benedict sparked outrage by reaching out to excommunicated, ultraconservative bishop, Richard Williamson, whose denial of the Holocaust during an interview with Swedish TV shot around the world on the Net.

Tiny seahorse found at Borneo, claimed as Top 10 new species

(CNN) -- A pea-sized seahorse, the world's longest insect, a "ghost slug" and the world's smallest snake were among the top 10 species discovered in 2008, a committee of scientists said Friday.

These unusual critters were among thousands of species found last year, many in remote or tropical regions of the planet, that hint at the breadth of the Earth's undiscovered biodiversity.

"Most people do not realize just how incomplete our knowledge of Earth's species is," said Quentin Wheeler, director of the International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University, which announced the top 10 new species list.

"We are surrounded by such an exuberance of species diversity that we too often take it for granted," Wheeler added.

The ASU institute and an international committee of taxonomists -- scientists devoted to species exploration and classification -- compile the top 10 list of new species each year.

Also on the 2008 list are a caffeine-free coffee plant, a snail whose shell twists around four axes, a palm that flowers itself to death and microscopic bacteria that live in hairspray.
Here's the complete list:

1. Pygmy seahorse: Classified by its Latin name, Hippocampus satomiae, this species measures about half an inch long and was found near Derawan Island off Kalimantan, Indonesia.

2. A plant that kills itself: Found in a small area of northwestern Madagascar, a rare genus of palm -- Tahina spectablilis -- produces huge, spectacular flowers and then dies and collapses. Fewer than 100 have been found.

3. Decaf, please: Known as Coffea charrieriana, this plant found in Cameroon is the first record of a caffeine-free coffee species from Central Africa.

4. Spray-on species: An extremophile bacteria, Microbacterium hatanonis, was discovered in hairspray by Japanese scientists.

5. A stick that moves: The world's longest insect, with a body length of 14 inches (22.3 inches including legs), Phobaeticus chani resembles a stick and was found in Borneo, Malaysia.

6. The Barbados Threadsnake: Leptotyphlops carlae measures only 4.1 inches long and is believed to be the world's smallest snake.

7. A pale "ghost slug": Selenochlamys ysbryda was a surprising find in the densely populated area of Cardiff, Wales.

8. A very limber snail: This unique species, Opisthostoma vermiculum, is found on a limestone hill in Malaysia and has a shell that twists around four axes.

9. Damsel in the deep blue sea: Chromis abyssus is a beautiful species of damselfish found in deep-reef habitat off the coast of Ngemelis Island, Palau.

10. Fossil mama: A fossilized fish, Materpiscis attenboroughi, is an extremely rare find from Western Australia and shows a mother giving birth 380 million years ago. Read More...

10 Must Read Travel Tips

Here are the usual reminders now that summer is definitely here and some of you may already be in the destination of your choice. For those who are still making up their minds, last minute, here are some tips, which can come handy now or next summer:

1) bring all basic medicines (for colds and headaches, allergies, first aid items like antiseptic swabs, band aid strips, etc.) and your vitamins

2) be mindful of the customs of the place you will be in (never wear revealing clothes in a Muslim country and ladies’ legs must be covered in Middle Eastern countries)

3) ask or observe before you enter temples or places of worship (you may have to leave your shoes before entering or wash your hands and face or wear a veil for women)

4) check when is the best time to visit a certain place (late March to mid April is cherry blossom time in Japan and the better places to be are Osaka and Kyoto to imbibe the serenity amidst the beauty of nature)

5) research as to what are the must-buy or must-eat or must- do in the destination of choice(steaming hot clam chowder soup in sourdough bread is a must-eat in Fisherman’s Wharf of San Francisco, the softest leather coat is a must-buy in Turkey or in Rome, if Turkey is not in the itinerary, kidney and steak pie is a must-eat in London, delft blue porcelain items are must-buys in Amsterdam and so are the loose diamonds there)

6) stay away from crowded places, as much as possible, as these can be sources of diseases (even just catching a cold) and danger zones for pickpockets

7) check out what are the freebies in the destination of choice – the parks are beautiful and free for the public to enjoy with even some free concerts or theater productions during summer or a movie (like in Central Park, New York)

8) be sure to have a good sun block lotion at all times as the sun is a very wicked source of inconvenience when you least want it

9) be sure to have a travel umbrella in your bag as the weather can be unpredictable; if you are traveling to a nearby country, the sun can be as fierce as here, so the umbrella will come in handy at noon time

10) if the luggage space will allow it, bring a bathing suit, just in case your friends may invite you to a beach picnic or a barbeque at the swimming pool

Let me stop at 10 reminders for you to be ready for your trip. Those will suffice. You may even take out one or two items that you find not necessary, in your case. Anyway, you are the arbiter of your fun time. No matter where or when and with whom, you are the one who can make your vacation a fun experience…not the place nor would the people make it so for you.

The Laptop Buying Guide For 2009

When you are a busy executive, You want a laptop that you can take with you easily. Ok you have a Desktop PC, But you cannot carry it with you. generally on the move but needs to constantly refer to your office documents and reply to e-mails, As a mobile office worker generally on the move but needs to constantly refer to your office documents and reply to e-mails, Then once again you need Laptop.

But it's important to consider the options you have available to buy a laptop for run your bussiness. You can purchase new, used or refurbished or even lease a laptop. Ok This is what you should look out for when buying a laptop.

1. Budget
Decide on a budget and look for laptops within that budget. Remember! you can get high-end laptops (with high configurations nad performance) but at lower prices simply because the brand does not command a premium price. It does make sense to explore these laptops if the after-sales service is good.

2. RAM
RAM is vital to system performance, lots of RAM you have lets you run more applications simultaneously. This is especially true in notebooks, because notebook graphics processors frequently have little or no memory of their own and share the main system RAM.

Adding RAM is an easy way to boost performance, but first make sure the notebook's memory sockets are accessible. (They're usually under a panel on the bottom of the system.) An easy way to determine how much RAM you need:

1GB: Good for basic office apps, running one at a time.
1.5GB: Sufficient for running several programs at once, photo editing, and basic 3D gaming.
2GB or more: Recommended for high-performance 3D gaming, demanding graphics work, and video editing.

3.Research Your Desired Laptop
Use the Internet to research your desired laptop, read the user reviews, expert comments about it etc. Better to know exactly what components it has (hard drives, optical drive, processor, and video card) and know what software is already preloaded. Be careful of salesman who will try to charge you extra fee just for configuring or installing programs on it, because these programs may already be preloaded at the factory bundle.

4.Screen size
It's Depending on the type of bussiness or work you run, make sure your screen fits the job. Graphics and spreadsheet tasks call for larger (wider) screens while e-mail requires very little space.

The minimum you will require is a 12-inch display. High-end users (who want to have the convenience of a wider screen and larger keyboard, similar to their PC) should go for a 15- to 17-inch screen.

5.Networking

You will at least need an Ethernet LAN connection and integrated wireless (preferably 802.11a/b/g - Wi-Fi) card. Also check for Bluetooth connectivity - it will enable you to wirelessly transfer data to other devices for up to 30 feet.

6. Battery
Your laptop Batteries should work forever, your laptop need good power to work properly. For basic laptops, a single Lithium-ion primary battery should at least last 2 years.

That's it, just simpliest tips you should consider before buy Laptop. And last, but not the least, read your warranty information carefully before you make a purchase.

Obama picks first African-American to head NASA

President Barack Obama has picked a former shuttle commander to head NASA.

If the Senate confirms Charles Bolden, he would be the space agency's first black administrator and the second astronaut to hold the post.

Bolden flew in space four times - twice as shuttle commander - and once was assistant deputy administrator at NASA headquarters in Washington. The 62-year-old Bolden left NASA in 1994.

Obama on Saturday also announced that he was nominating Lori Garver to be NASA's deputy administrator. Garver was Obama's NASA transition chief and is a former associate administrator at the agency.

The president says the nominees will help put NASA on course to "boldly push" the boundaries of science, aeronautics and exploration in the 21st century. Read More...

Koehler re-elected as German president

BERLIN – German President Horst Koehler won a second five-year term Saturday, a victory that gave a symbolic boost to Chancellor Angela Merkel's hopes of forming a center-right government after a national election this September.

Koehler, a former International Monetary Fund head and a member of Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats, secured the required majority by a single vote in the first round of voting by a special parliamentary assembly.

That was enough to see off a challenge from center-left Social Democrat Gesine Schwan, who was bidding to become Germany's first female president — a largely ceremonial job.

Merkel said she was "very glad" about Koehler's swift victory. "We think he is the president Germany needs in this situation," she added.

The popular 66 year old won 613 votes in the 1,224-member parliamentary assembly, made up of lower-house lawmakers and delegates nominated by state legislatures. Schwan, who had hoped to force further rounds of voting, won 503.

The presidency is supposed to be above the political fray and carries little real power, but Schwan's challenge shook up the usually genteel election process and raised doubt over Koehler's re-election.

The vote came before Merkel and Social Democrat Frank-Walter Steinmeier, her foreign minister, face off in a Sept. 27 national election in which both hope to end their tense "grand coalition" of Germany's biggest parties.

As opposition leader, Merkel installed Koehler in 2004 with the help of the pro-business Free Democrats, her preferred future coalition partner. They backed Koehler's re-election, along with a smaller center-right group.

Merkel and the Free Democrats' leader, Guido Westerwelle, appeared together to congratulate Koehler.

The Hollywood Gossip 3rd Week of May'09 Review

Below, The Hollywood Gossip staff takes a quick look back at what was quite possibly the greatest week in the history of celebrity news and gossip.

Highlights some good stories ...

* Kris Allen won American Idol. More incredibly, Adam Lambert did not win American Idol. On a side Idol note, an odd bikini battle took place.

* Shawn Johnson won Dancing With the Stars. More incredibly, Melissa Rycroft did not win Dancing With the Stars. Oh well, she's still hot.

* Speaking of Melissa, her former Bachelor competition, and perhaps Canada's best export yet, Jillian Harris, debuted as The Bachelorette.

* In political news, Rielle Hunter wants to stick it to John Edwards, while Bristol Palin says she never wanted to stick it to Levi Johnston.

* Michael Vick was released from the pound. Kiefer Sutherland is likely not heading back there. Still no word on whether Chris Brown is.

* Jon and Kate Plus 8 may change its name to Jon and Kate Plus Fake Marriage Contracts, Various Mistresses and Non-Stop Drama.

* Among the Cannes Film Festival highlights (besides movies, of course): Hayden Panettiere displays her bikini body and misspelled tattoo; Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt nearly exchange bodily fluids in public.

* The Hills' Spencer Pratt deemed himself the future of hip-hop, as well as too famous to stoop to reality TV rival Jason Wahler's level.

* In young, hot couple news, Robert Pattinson and Erika Dutra are rumored to be an item, while the romantic relationship of Selena Gomez and Taylor Lautner is sort of confirmed. Ditto for Audrina Patridge and Chris Pine.

* Carrie Prejean's mom might be gay.

Wolfsburg Bundesliga Champions 2009

[BERLIN, May 23]
Wolfsburg 5-1 Werder Bremen

A superb 5-1 home win over UEFA Cup and DFB Pokal finalists Werder Bremen has seen VfL Wolfsburg claim their first ever Bundesliga title. The Wolves stormed into a three goal lead only to see Diego pull one back for the visitors.

However, Grafite added a fourth early in the second 45 minutes to seal a great victory and start the title winning party inside the Volkswagen Arena. Edin Dzeko then added a fifth to make he and Grafite the most prolific strike duo in Bundesliga history.

Felix Magath's team finished the season with 69 points, two ahead of last year's champion, Bayern Munich, which edged Stuttgart 2-1. Magath, who has also won two titles with Bayern, is leaving to coach Schalke next season.

# Factbox on VfL Wolfsburg, who won the Bundesliga title for the first time on this Saturday.

Founded: September 12, 1945

Stadium: Volkswagen Arena. Capacity: 30,000

Coach: Felix Magath

Mascot: Woelfi

Nickname: The Wolves

Colours: Green and white.

Top Scorer 2008/9: Grafite 28

* They lost in the 1995 German Cup final to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

* In the 2008/09 campaign, Wolfsburg equalled the longest winning streak in one Bundesliga season with 10 successive victories after the winter break.

* They were promoted to the top flight in 1997 and have never been relegated since. They had never finished higher than fifth before the 2008/09 season.

* Wolfsburg are the only team in the Bundesliga to have ever had two strikers score more than 20 goals each in one season. Brazilian Grafite and Bosnian Edin Dzeko did it in the title-winning season, scoring 28 and 26 respectively.

The Apple Tablet is coming to shake up netbook market

More evidence of the Apple Tablet surfaced today. We first wrote about the device at the end of last year when OEMs in China started hearing about the device. Details are still thin, although probably not because of a lack of leaks. Rather, Apple may still be locking down important specs like screen size.

We’d heard 7 - 9 inch screen size late last year, but today’s reports range up to 10 inches, which we’ve also heard from our sources as a possible size.

We don’t know what the final price point will be, but somewhere between $500 and $1,000 makes sense. We’ve also heard that the launch date was pushed from this Fall to early next year, and we’ve confirmed that significant human assets from the iPod and iPhone team have been dedicated to the project.

In other words, the project is very real.

The operating system is likely to be based on the iPhone OS, which is a derivative of the standard Mac OS X. Some app developers have seen underlying code that suggests a larger screen device is on the way.

That means the App Store is a big part of the Apple Tablet, and the device will be particularly useful for gaming.

What we don’t know - the final screen size or the core CPU, although 10 inches is likely as we said, and it wouldn’t be surprising for Apple to launch with the Samsung ARM11 chip in the iPhone or their own proprietary chip from P.A. Semi, a company they acquired in 2008.

It’s not inconceivable that Apple would build around an Intel dual core that is common in most laptops, although the power usage of those chips would mean adding so much battery weight that the tradeoff may be unacceptable.

But if you look at the Macbook Air, which is a dual core machine that’s just an inch thick, you can imaging a dual core Apple Tablet. The only problem there would be cost - that is a $2,000 machine.

Most of the discussion today around CPUs is power usage, not core computing horsepower. ARM and Atom chips compete in low end devices like mobile phones and netbooks. Neither are great for Internet browsing - Flash, particularly video, still doesn’t work properly on ARM. Intel’s Atom isn’t much better because it can’t handle full screen or HD Flash video without skipping. Atom chips are also 2-3x the cost of ARM 11 chips and use significantly more power. Apple actually underclocks their ARM11 chip to get more battery life out of the iPhone, which hurts performance.
