JUNIPER Networks released TX Matrix Plus Enables Service Providers

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR - News), the leader in high-performance networking, today introduced the TX Matrix Plus, a multi-chassis core routing system that enables service providers to deliver innovative services with maximum profitability and investment protection. It's powerful to Build a Scalable Network That Can Readily Adapt to Changing Business models. Interconnecting multiple T1600 core routers, the TX Matrix Plus is designed to work with the Juniper Control System (JCS) 1200 to allow the virtualization of routing systems, networks and services—bringing a new dimension of flexibility and scalability to the network core.

“We are very pleased to see Juniper bring virtualization to the core with the TX Matrix Plus multi-chassis routing system,” said Kempei Fukuda, director, global network department, NTT Communications Corporation. “With the TX Matrix Plus and other advances announced today, Juniper is providing solutions that enable service providers to deploy highly scalable, flexible networks which can help protect investments and drive profitability.”

“Delivering innovative, reliable services requires a highly flexible and scalable core routing system at the heart of the network, and our investment in Juniper’s T1600 routing platform is in line with this strategy,” said Mr. Fadhil Ansari, senior executive vice president of engineering, Etisalat. “Juniper’s announcement of the new TX Matrix Plus multi-chassis routing system ensures our investment protection and enables us to build and scale a very efficient, flexible and reliable core network.”

The TX Matrix Plus leverages the superior technology of Juniper’s T1600, the industry’s highest capacity, most energy efficient single-chassis core router. The T1600 and TX Matrix Plus lower total cost of ownership by delivering up to 25 percent more routing capacity in the half the footprint, and with up to 40 percent less power than competing solutions. The TX Matrix Plus architecture is designed to support up to 25 Tbps of capacity by integrating up to sixteen T1600s into a single multi-chassis routing node. This multi-chassis router can be managed as a single, unified router, or combined with the JCS 1200 to enable the secure virtualization of core routers—which creates efficiencies by consolidating networks, services and functionality.

Virtualization in the Network Core

Virtualization has seen rapid adoption in the data center and elsewhere because of its ability to increase efficiency and reduce costs by sharing and consolidating resources. In the core of the network, regulatory, operational, organizational and security issues have made the virtualization of disparate networks and services more challenging. With the TX Matrix Plus and JCS 1200, Juniper is addressing these challenges by enabling the hardware virtualization of highly scalable, adaptable core routers. Juniper core routers can be partitioned—on a per slot basis—into multiple virtual routers, each of which might represent services or network element types, and which can share resources such as interconnecting links and uplinks. This unique ability ensures service providers can maintain the appropriate levels of administrative and service-specific separation, security and management while still recognizing the significant efficiency and cost-savings benefits of virtualization.

Service providers who leverage the TX Matrix Plus and other Juniper solutions to virtualize their core networks will be able to rapidly introduce new services on their existing infrastructure, while still managing each network and service individually. This dramatically speeds the introduction of new services, and also opens up a range of new business models and partnership opportunities, such as the ability to deliver “Open Garden” services, virtual network operator, network as a service (NaaS) and network sharing.

“Just as virtualization and the intelligent partitioning of resources has become the standard for optimizing data center resources, network virtualization will bring a new dimension of flexibility and scalability to the network infrastructure,” said Ray Mota, chief research officer, Synergy Research Group. “With the announcement today, Juniper is leading the way in this important area, enabling customers to streamline asset utilization with hardware logical routers partitioned at the line card level.”

Scaling the Virtualized Core

To allow customers to truly unlock the power of virtualization and meet increasing demand for capacity, Juniper is delivering a range of supporting technologies for both single- and multi-chassis T1600s. As the only core router on the market with 100 Gigabits of capacity per slot, the T1600 is uniquely optimized for supporting the ultra-high capacity links necessitated by virtualized core routers.

Additionally, Juniper is continuing to expand on its optical integration capabilities with new integrated G.709 optical transport network (OTN) interfaces and GMPLS features. These enhanced integrated optical capabilities further eliminate the need for standalone optical transponders, leading to a significant reduction in space and power.

By collapsing layers in the network and consolidating network interfaces, virtualization and the OTN interfaces can drive down the cost-per-bit of transporting network services—enabling service providers to extract maximum value from their network and fueling profitability.

“Virtualization is the de facto operational model for data centers, because the cost and operational advantages it provides are indisputable,” said Opher Kahane, senior vice president and general manager, High-End Systems Business Unit, Juniper Networks. “The TX Matrix Plus brings these same advantages of virtualization to core networks in the industry’s most flexible multi-chassis routing system. This breakthrough can lower total cost of ownership by enabling our customers to build scalable, reliable networks that can deliver innovative services with maximum profitability and investment protection.”

Enabling Three-Dimensional Scale

The new platforms and enhancements introduced today build on over a decade of innovation in service provider networks, to enable customers to build and scale the most efficient, flexible and reliable core networks. Across the T-series portfolio, Juniper platforms enable customers to flexibly scale in multiple dimensions across the forwarding, control and services plane. Existing customers of T640s can scale the forwarding plane by migrating to T1600s, TX Matrixes and now the TX Matrix Plus—all of which can be done non-disruptively with maximum flexibility.

The JCS 1200 is the only independent control plane scaling platform in the industry, uniquely delivering the ability to scale control plane capacity without impacting forwarding plane performance—a capability critical to the ability to virtualize core networks and services.

All of these platforms are powered by JUNOS® software, a single operating system running routing, switching and security platforms from Juniper Networks. By enabling customers and partners to develop applications on JUNOS software through the Partner Solution Development Platform (additional fees apply), Juniper is also the only company in the industry that enables customers to scale the services plane with unique and customized services. Customers and partners can use the Partner Solution Development Platform to develop and deliver of innovative new value-add services for improved productivity and profitability.

The TX Matrix Plus is expected to be available in 3Q09. The OTN interfaces will be available in the current quarter.

Swine flu e-mail in Spanish links to data-stealing Trojan

This is the main page of the site that the malware is on, but it was probably hacked.

An e-mail referencing a vaccine for swine flu is circulating that includes a link to a malicious file on a Mexican Web site that is designed to steal bank log-in information, security firm SonicWall said on Friday.

The e-mail, which is in Spanish, has a link to the Qhost.NJI Trojan on a Web site that appears to be legitimate but has probably been hacked, said Nick Bilogorskiy, manager of antivirus research at SonicWall.

The Trojan, an executable file coded in Visual Basic, changes the host file on Windows computers so that if the computer is used to visit certain domains of Mexican banks the PC is redirected to itself without the user knowing it and the Trojan steals any log-in data that is typed, Bilogorskiy said.

Earlier in the week, Symantec said a malicious PDF had been discovered that masqueraded as a frequently-asked-questions document related to the outbreak. And there have been numerous reports of spam using swine flu-related subject lines that lure people to pharmaceutical sites, security firms have reported.

BlackBerry Storm VS. iPhone 3G

After teasing us with videos and a vague web site, Research in Motion has finally decided to come out of the closet with full details on its touchscreen handset, the BlackBerry Storm.Everybody knows that "touchscreen" is code for "iPhone competitor." So we’ve compiled a chart comparing the two handsets’ specifications (below the jump). You’ll be entertained to see that in terms of hardware, the Storm is much more competitive with the iPhone than the underwhelming T-Mobile G1.

If you’re like us, you’re probably surprised to see the handset’s lack of Wi-Fi connectivity. That’s the major area where iPhone has an advantage, although
BlackBerry smartphones are typically aimed at enterprise users, who primarily use their smartphones for e-mail — so they may not mind. Still, quite an odd omission from a handset that features a web browser and multimedia capabilities virtually identical to the iPhone.

As for the Storm’s advantages, you’ll notice that the camera sports a superior resolution at 3.2 megapixels and also includes a flash, auto focus and video-recording capability. We can only hope the Storm’s battery lasts long enough to handle those features without rendering them impractical.

Another interesting tidbit: The Storm’s screen is a wee bit smaller but sports a higher pixel resolution than the iPhone screen.’s
Daniel Dumas had some hands-on time with the Storm, and he’s described the screen as "Beautiful."

Moving on to software — the Storm will ship with the popular BlackBerry OS, which, as I mentioned earlier, is optimized for enterprise purposes. Think wireless synchronization with Lotus Notes, Outlook and Novell GroupWise.

Overall, the Storm appears to attempt to strike a balance between "business" and "casual," allowing serious enterprise users to take a breather every once and a while and watch a video, for example. However, it remains questionable whether enterprise users will appreciate the lack of a physical QWERTY

RIM has not disclosed U.S. pricing or an official ship date yet. Verizon will serve as the U.S. carrier. We’ll provide updates as more details become available.

Google Breaks $100 billion brand value threshold

LONDON - Google has become the world's first $100bn-brand, according to the latest BrandZ survey.

The study found that the internet search giant has reached a brand value of $100,039m, a 16% year-on-year increase. It is trailed by Microsoft and Coca-Cola, which took the second and third spots respectively.

Despite the economic downturn, the value of the top 100 brands has risen by 2% in the past year, to $1.95tn.

There is also remarkable stability in the market - 85 of this year's 100 most valuable brands were also in the Top 100 last year.

China Merchants Bank, BlackBerry and Amazon posted the biggest rises in value. In the UK, the top-ranking brand by value was Vodafone, followed by Tesco and HSBC.

It proved to be a good year for fast-food, cigarette and alcohol brands, as consumers suffering from recession depression appear to have sought quick pick-me-ups. McDonald's (34%), Marlboro (33%) Budweiser (23%) and Johnnie Walker (42%) all recorded solid increases in brand value, year on year.

The most valuable category was mobile telephone operators; its value grew 28% year on year. This was followed by soft drinks and coffee.

The insurance sector experienced the biggest decline in brand value, dropping by 48% year on year. Car brands also suffered a significant fall, declining 22%.

European Best League Table (1st week of May'09)

Match previews - Sat 2nd May in the Barclays Premier League.

Manchester United can stretch their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League to six points on Saturday.

With closest rivals Liverpool not playing until Sunday, the champions have the chance to steal a march.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men are currently three points clear and still have a match in hand but know they cannot afford to slip up at relegation-threatened Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough v Manchester United

Manchester United need 10 points from their remaining five fixtures to be certain of claiming a second hat-trick of Premier League titles.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men have not lost to Middlesbrough in their last nine meetings in all competitions.

Boro have won only one of their last seven matches and only two of 22 although they are unbeaten in seven at home. They are currently three points adrift of safety and in danger of losing their 11-year top flight status.

By contrast, United have lost only two of their last 22, failing to score in only one of their last 17. They have won their last four and have lost only one of their last nine league meetings with Boro.

Chelsea v Fulham

Chelsea will be aiming to keep up the pressure from a local derby against Fulham at Stamford Bridge. The sides sit third and fourth in the current form table.

The Cottagers are on course for the highest finish in their 130-year history, eclipsing ninth in 2003-04. If they can retain seventh spot, it should earn a place in the third qualifying round for next season's Europa League.

Fulham have not won at Stamford Bridge in the top flight since 1964 with Chelsea losing only one of their 15 Premier League meetings against their neighbours.

Roy Hodgson's men have won four and drawn one of their last six in the Barclays Premier League while the Blues have won seven of nine under Guus Hiddink. Read More...

Guardiola Includes Thierry Henry In Barcelona Squad For Real Madrid Clash

Pep Guardiola has summoned a 19-man convoy for Barcelona's visit to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid in Saturday’s El Clasico showdown.

The only concern for the coach ahead of the trip was forward, Thierry Henry, who had been struggling to shrug off a neck injury he suffered in midweek against Chelsea in the Champions League.

But a late fitness test has confirmed that the Frenchman is healthy enough to be included in the squad, although it is widely expected that he will start from the bench as Pep considers resting at least one of his attacking trio.

Crocked defender, Rafa Marquez is the only big-name exclusion. The Mexican ruptured the external meniscus in his left knee during the Chelsea stalemate last Tuesday and he will be ruled out for eight to ten weeks.

Squad list: Victor Valdes, Jorquera – Dani Alves, Pique, Puyol, Caceres, Abidal, Sylvinho – Xavi, Iniesta, Keita, Toure, Busquets, Hleb, Gudjohnsen – Bojan, Messi, Henry, Eto’o Read More...

Robben makes the cut for the Clasico

Juande Ramos has chosen 19 men for Saturday's 20:00 CET match against Barça. One of them will have to be dropped before the match kicks-off. Arjen Robben has recovered from the fibrilar tear on his right leg and will be able to play. Henize has also recovered and will be able to face the eternal foe. Sneijder and Guti will miss the clash because of their injuries. Salgado, Pepe and Codina have been left out. Faubert is on the list.

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Dudek
Defenders: Heinze, Torres, Marcelo, Ramos, Cannavaro, Metzelder, Garcia
Midfielders: Van der Vaart, Parejo, Gago, Lass, Robben, Faubert
Forwards: Raul, Higuain, Huntelaar, Saviola
